IBM Helps Nigeria’s Lagos State Design Transportation System for Future Growth
A team of IBM experts completing a month-long pro bono consulting assignment, today presented recommendations to Nigeria’s Lagos State Government to help ensure a more efficient flow of traffic in the city of Lagos. Africa’s most populous city, Lagos has 20 million citizens.
Working with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, the agency responsible for developing and implementing the state’s transportation blueprint, and the Lagos State Ministries of Transportation, Works & Infrastructure, Science & Technology, the IBM team of experts proposed technology-driven strategies to make travel easier.
New York Forum AFRICA 2013 to Host Ten African Heads of State
Ten African heads of state have confirmed their attendance at The New York Forum AFRICA, to be held in Libreville, Gabon from June 14-16. The leaders, including heads of state from all six of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central African States (CEMAC), will join more than 1,000 business and political leaders.
The New York Forum AFRICA is the largest pan-African business summit in the world; this year it plays host to the Summit of the Heads of CEMAC, whose members are Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo.
MasterCard Launches New Training Facility in Kenya
MasterCard has announced the launch of a brand new training facility in Kenya to empower the financial services ecosystem with knowledge on various aspects of cashless payments in order to boost acceptance readiness in the region.
The training centre, located at MasterCard’s East Africa offices in Eldama Park, off Peponi Road, will be used for training purposes for merchants, retailers and other partners. The facility, which can seat up to 40 people at a time, will be used to host project meetings to enhance awareness of global payments industry best practice in issuance of cards, retail payments and technical aspects of cashless transactions.
Organizations, UN Shows Commitment To Advance Maternal and New Born Health in Nigeria
As a follow up to the October 2012 launch of the Saving One Million Lives initiative in Abuja and as part of efforts aimed at fulfilling its commitment to Nigeria, General Electric Healthcare in partnership with the Ministry of Health, The Wellbeing Foundation Africa and Save the Children recently convened key stakeholders and thought leaders in a roundtable programme designed to discuss ways technology and innovation can contribute to meeting Nigeria’s maternal and new born health goals.
The roundtable programme was aimed at mobilizing partners to introduce new technologies and innovations in partnership with all levels of government.
