Apple remains No.1 in the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands

Apple remains the BrandZTM Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brand for 2013, worth $185 billion. Apple grew just +1% in the last year compared to a +51% growth for its closest competitor, Samsung, which is now no.30 in the global ranking with a brand value of $21 billion.

Google is also a serious challenger for the no.1 spot, reversing last year’s decline to grow +5% in brand value this year. The brand is no.2 in the ranking with a value of $114 billion. IBM is no.3 in the ranking with a brand value of $112 billion.

Intel Sponsors Nigerian Students To International Science And Engineering Fair In USA

Renowned chip makers Intel Corporation, has sponsored nine Nigerian secondary school students to represent Nigeria with their urine-powered generator which at the 2013 international leg of the Intel Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

In the National leg of the competition, secondary schools from around the thirty six states of the federation showcased their projects and inventions with the goal of addressing the challenges in their local communities. According to the organizers, the annual event has been instrumental in encouraging secondary school students to develop an enquiry-based, practical approach to the Science and Engineering learning process.

Oshiomhole hails N35bn Benin Brewery investment

Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Friday, lauded Guinness Nigeria Plc. for investing about N35bn in expanding the capacity of its Benin Brewery. Comrade Oshiomhole described the company as a valued private sector partner with the best interest of the people and government of Edo State at heart.

He attributed the increased inflow of investment into the state from the company, to a great extent, to the enabling environment created in the state through focused and visionary leadership.

YouTube Turns Eight, SA and Kenya Biggest African Markets

World’s largest video sharing platform, YouTube turns eight this week with a record 100 hours of video uploaded every minute. The portal was developed in 2005 by three American techies Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim and later acquired by Internet giant Google a year later.

Kenya and Uganda are the only East African states that have a dedicated YouTube country channel that was launched in 2011 to encourage users to load local video content.

The competition was organized in two phases for both primary and secondary school students among which 60 contestants from 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas participated.  The grand finale which held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja saw Junior and Secondary school students gathered to contest for the star prize. The students were all adorned in branded Indomie T-shirts, writing materials and were treated to a freshly prepared Indomie noodles.
